Understanding Your Model Number

Scroll over each number or letter to see the full explanation of each character in the model number.
The first letter in the sequence is the brand. In this example, there is a W, which means that this model is a Whirlpool (as opppoesed to KitchenAide or Maytag).
The second letter in the sequence indicates the platform or appliance type. In this case R stands for “free standing refrigerator”.
The third letter in the sequence indicates the configuration of the platform or appliance type. In this case F stands for “three door/French door”.
Here is a list of the possible refrigerator configurations:
F = 3-Door FDBM/French Door M/X = 4-Door
V = 5-Door FDBM S = Side-by-Side
Q = Quad-Door U = Upright Single Door
B = Bottom Mount T = Top Mount
The fourth letter in the sequence is the attributes. In this example, there is a C, which means that this model is counter depth.
Here are the other possible attributes:
C = Counter Depth F = Full Depth
P = Door Panel Accessory L = Left Door Swing TM/BM R = Right Door Swing TM/BM
X = Reversible Swing TM/BM 1-3 = Basic 5 = Medium 7 = High 9/A = Premium
These three numbers are a little more complicated. They are: Series/Series Step-Up/Width/Feature Level/Capacity/Key Feature/Dispensing System or Derivative.
Here are the possibilities:
Pre-2023 = Pre-2023: 1st number=feature level, 2nd number=capacity (Ranges from 0–9: add 10 or 20 to find cu. ft. capacity), 3rd character=key feature (B=Beveled edge, C=Counter depth, D=Reversible door with drawer, F=Flat, K=Trim kit, L=Left fixed hinge, O=Overlay, R=Right fixed hinge, S=Smooth, T=Textured, W=Two reversible swing doors, 4th character=Dispensing system or derivative (C=Crushed ice, D=Ice & water, E=External Water, F=Optional icemaker, I=In-Door-Ice® system, M=Factory-installed icemaker, N=Nondispensing, W=Internal water, Z=EZ Connect Icemaker ready)
2023+ = 1st number=Series, 2nd number=Series Step-Up, last 2 numbers=width (15=15 in., 24=24 in., 27=27 in., 28=28 in., 30=30 in., 31=31 in., 33=33 in., 36=36 in.)
This letter indicates the year of launch. Here is the key:
B = 2013 F = 2016 J = 2019 M = 2022
D = 2014 G = 2017 K = 2020 P = 2023
E = 2015 H = 2018 L = 2021 R = 2024
Finally, the last letter indicates the color. Here is the key:
B = Black K = Khaki T = Bisque
C = Chrome Shadow L = Linen U = Volcano Black
D = Black Shadow M = Monochromatic Stainless V = Fingerprint Resistant Black Stainless
E = Black Ice P = Panel Ready W = White
F = Blue Carbon Q = Matte Silver Sol Gel X = Cashmere
G = Velvet Ink R = Core Silver Y = No Color (i.e. disposals)
H = White Ice S = Stainless Z = Fingerprint Resistant Stainless
